Godin Freeway Classic 2004 with fitted Roland GK-3 and Roland GR-20 synth included!

Overview: Up for sale is my 2004 Freeway Classic, which I modified by fitting in CTS pods and a Roland GK-3 pick-up to use with the Roland-GR-20 synth also included in the sale. This is an amazing instrument, with tremendously versatile pickups, 5-way switch for bridge-, mid- and neck humbucker / singlecoil tones. As the reviews and videos online state the build quality is exceptional, quite frankly surpassing that of other USA-made mainstream guitar brands.

Condition: Functionally, both the guitar and synth are in great condition. Cosmetically, they are in VERY GOOD condition, especially given their age. I down-marked the sale as "Good", purely because I want to be upfront with you that I had to do some drilling in the body to fit the Roland GK-3 pick-up correctly (see in the pictures). In reality, the guitar only has light surface marks from playing wear-and-tear, and there are no dings, chips or cracks. I have always been EXTREMELY careful with them, as with all my gear, hence the great condition they're in.

What is it like to play: The guitar on its own is a formidable instrument. The tonal palette is broad and always convincing, thanks to Godin's brilliant own brand pick-ups. The humbuckers give a tremendous output, able to drive any tube amp to beautiful break-up with ease. Roll them back or lower the gain in your amp and you get clean and articulate tones without the fear of ever sounding thin. The split coil positions give tight and punchy singlecoil tones, perfect for bitty rock and funk grooves.

What about playing it through the synth: Together, the Freeway Classic and the GR-20 work seamlessly, just like the far more expensive Godin SA counterparts! You may read in online forums string tracking with the GK-3 pick-up can be problematic. IMO, that only happens when people do a sub-standard job and not take care the magnets are correctly aligned. I was extremely careful when I fitted it in, so the GK-3 pick-up tracks all six strings perfectly. My advice would be to treat each pre-set in the GR-20 as a completely different instrument; adjust your attack and picking technique accordingly to get the most out of them, rather than pretending you're still only playing a guitar :)

Reason for sale: I'm downsizing my collection. I want to keep only the instruments I need to use regularly for gigs. I have used this lovely guitar and the synth for several years in the past, feeling right at home in versatile function gigs and in festivals with rock-dub-fusion projects. That's this very same guitar + synth in the YT video linked in this post. However, I have not gigged them regularly for the past couple of years, really, which is what guitars need. It's only fair it finds a new loving home.

Please note:

  • The price of the sale is for the guitar + synth together. Check any other posts here and elsewhere and you'd realise you're getting a bargain price for the awesome Freeway Classic guitar + the GK-3 pick-up + the GR-20 synth. I am a working musician, so I am trying to do right by other fellow musicians out there, just as I would expect when I purchase gear on this platform.
  • While I cannot accept returns, I will pack them carefully and ship them with tracked 24hr delivery guaranteed, fully insured for the value of the sale. Should there be any mishaps in transit, rest assured you will be able to get your money back.
  • You are more than welcome to come and try it / collect in person. If that's your preference, message me and I would be happy to discount the shipping cost.
  • I'd be reluctant to sell them separately. IMO opinion you are getting a great deal given the fair asking price.

Thank you very much for checking out my post. Happy to chat further if you have any questions.
