D'Addario EXL117 strings are a precision-engineered hybrid set optimized specifically for guitars tuned down a whole step to Drop D. Featuring medium gauge top strings (.011, .014, .019) for comfortable playability and extra heavy gauge bottom strings (.032, .044, .056) for powerful low-end response, this set balances flexibility with tension. The strings employ nickel-plated steel wrap wire over a hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core, resulting in a bright yet balanced tone with clear lows and articulate mids. Their construction delivers excellent intonation, dynamic range, and long-lasting durability. The nickel plating reduces fingertip noise and fret wear, enhancing playability and longevity. Packaged in corrosion-resistant, eco-friendly materials, these strings are made in the USA with strict quality control and are ideal for players seeking the perfect blend of tone and tension for Drop D tuning.
