Personal Thoughts:
This is a seriously cool take on the ’64 ES-335. Underneath the unusual finish, you are still getting the ingredients people actually want from a good Custom Shop 335: laminated maple construction with a centre block, mahogany neck, rosewood board, small blocks, and that mid-’60s style neck carve. That recipe tends to give these guitars a great balance of warmth, snap, and air, and the Custombuckers suit it really well by keeping things open and articulate rather than overly compressed. What makes this one stand out is obviously the Brunswick Sparkle Red finish, which gives a normally quite traditional model a far more flamboyant, custom-order feel without losing any of the class. It is the sort of guitar that still appeals to vintage-minded players, but has a lot more visual personality than the usual Cherry or Sunburst route. Gibson’s Historic Collection is built around year-correct recreations, and this example appears to be a special-finish version of that 1964 platform.
