SONY STR-7800SD VINTAGE STEREO RECEIVER – THE FINEST RECEIVER EVER DESIGNED BY SONY
Even before you switch it on, it'll be receiving. Receiving oohs and aahs.
After it goes on, the accolades will really come in.
Offered here is a magnificent example of Sony's engineering prowess: the STR-7800SD, a vintage stereo receiver from the golden era of hi-fi (1977-1978). This is quite simply the finest receiver Sony ever designed, putting you on the receiving end of the most tomorrow-looking technology available today—proven and perfected over nearly five decades.
This unit has been given a thorough once-over: it is tested and working beautifully. A basic inspection reveals no burst capacitors, no strange issues, and importantly, no magic electronic smoke has escaped. It is relatively clean inside and has been carefully air dusted. All rear outlets are functional. It comes to you with only a couple of minor cosmetic blemishes, speaking to a life of careful ownership. It will be professionally packed, double-boxed, and fully insured to arrive at your door in the same pristine condition it leaves us.
YOU'LL RECEIVE A FEELING OF POWER
The 7800 brings power to the power-hungry and can even make the mild-mannered lust for power. Rated at a conservative 125 watts per channel (minimum RMS at 8 ohms, 20-20,000Hz), it's powerful enough to drive any speakers and satisfy any need—all with no more than 0.07% Total Harmonic Distortion. This combination of raw power and vanishingly low distortion is a direct result of Sony's engineering muscle.
At its heart lies a toroidal coil transformer, a more efficient structure that fully exploits the high-performance power amp, supported by two oversized 22,000µF capacitors. The feeling of power throughout the frequency range is unmistakable, delivering an extremely musical performance that outshines many Marantz and Pioneer models from the same era.
YOU'LL RECEIVE TUNING THAT'LL LEAVE YOU SWOONING
FM circuitry usually found only in separates appears in the 7800. MOS FETs are used in the FM RF amplification, resulting in good linearity, low noise, and high sensitivity. It features a complete FM Dolby noise reduction system to minimize noise and overload distortion. The uni-phase IF filters are so advanced, a computer designed them. A Multipath switch and meter indicate optimum antenna orientation, reducing distortion, while an LED dial pointer doubles in length when an FM signal is received for easy tuning. Quite simply, this is the best FM tuner I have ever heard.
YOU'LL RECEIVE A PRE-AMP THAT'S PRE-EMINENT
Sony's exclusive Low Emitter Concentration (LEC) transistor guarantees low noise and a wide dynamic range, keeping RIAA equalization to within ±0.5dB. A Presence switch lets you equalize the mid-range, and the Professional Attenuator Main Volume Control eliminates gang error between channels. A special loudness network and audio muting switch round out the controls. Inputs include Phono 1, Phono 2, External Adaptor, Auxiliary, and two tape decks with tape-to-tape dubbing facilities.
