Non original hardshell case.
The Epiphone Texan has been the choice of countless musicians including Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton and Noel Gallagher. In fact, McCartney wrote and performed one of the most recorded and popular songs ever, "Yesterday" on his Texan. Jimi Hendrix also owned and used one of these guitars. Bought from Manny's in N.Y.C.. Explaining that it was his favorite acoustic.
It all starts with the classic sloped-shoulder or Advanced Jumbo (AJ) shape. Unlike ordinary dreadnoughts, the Texan features a more rounded upper bout and a larger lower bout with a subtle waist. Resembling a bell shape, this leads to a more balanced tone with shimmering highs, deeper lows and clearer mid-range that's perfect for singer/songwriters and other solo performers. The Texan features a premium solid Spruce top with a solid Mahogany back and Mahogany rims. Solid woods resonate beautifully and only improve with age. The neck is solid Mahogany topped with a Rosewood fingerboard adorned with the parallelogram inlays.
The 1964 Epiphone Texan (FT-79) is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars in music history, primarily because it was the instrument of choice for Paul McCartney.
While Epiphone is Gibson's brand, in 1964 they were built in the same Kalamazoo factory by the same craftsmen using high-quality materials. The Texan is essentially the long-scale sibling to the legendary Gibson J-45.
Why the 1964 Texan is Special
- The "Yesterday" Connection: McCartney used his 1964 Texan to record and perform "Yesterday." If you've seen a photo of him with an acoustic guitar during the Beatles' peak, it’s almost certainly this one.
- Longer Scale Length: Unlike the short-scale Gibson J-45 (24.75 inches), the Texan features a 25.5-inch scale. This provides higher string tension, resulting in more volume, punch, and a brighter top-end.
- The "Sloped" Shoulder: It features the classic "Advanced Jumbo" body shape, which offers a more balanced, less "boomy" sound than a square-shouldered dreadnought.
