The Gibson CS J-45 Genuine Mahogany from 2014 is a limited edition of only 75 pieces, built at the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana (USA), an all solid timber acoustic guitar in the popular Slope Shoulder Dreadnought format. The J-45 is one of the most traditional models in Gibson's history and, as a “workhorse,” is one of the best-selling and most played models ever.
This exclusive Custom Shop version sets even higher standards: The selected all mahogany body gives the guitar an extraordinary blend of assertiveness, crystal-clear highs, singing mids, and a fast, direct response. Thanks to its round-shoulder design, it develops a particularly voluminous, woody foundation that is ideal for singer/songwriters, strumming, and powerful flatpicking passages.
A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery.
At the amp, the factory-installed L.R. Baggs VTC also delivers a first-class, natural, and dynamic signal for stage use. The piezo-based pickup system captures the organic character of the body extremely authentically and offers a reliable all-round solution for live and professional studio applications.
In terms of playability, the mahogany neck with a slim taper profile provides a flattering ergonomic feel that is perfect for both modern playing styles and traditional fingerpicking. In combination with the one-piece rosewood fingerboard and 43.8mm nut width, this results in excellent string support and smooth, precise playability across the entire fingerboard.
Visually, too, the combination makes an incredibly high-quality overall impression, with the natural high-gloss nitrocellulose finish revealing the beautifully grained woods underneath and complementing the sparkling gold hardware and abalone dot inlays on the fretboard and bridge.
The back of the headstock features the exclusive Custom Shop decal, further emphasizing the limited edition.
Truly perfection in terms of sound, playability, and aesthetics—a genuine Gibson Custom Shop J-45 that you can grow old with.
