Overview

Complete first-generation Soyuz SU-017 valve microphone system with both the original cardioid capsule and genuine Soyuz omni capsule, each with its own original walnut presentation box. The optional 017 omni capsule currently sells separately for $999 direct from Soyuz and is listed by a European dealer at €900 ex VAT, making this a considerably more complete package than the standard SU-017 normally found on the used market.

I purchased this microphone new and have been its only owner. It has been used exclusively in my own professional studio and has been extremely well cared for throughout its life. I’m now reluctantly selling it as part of a long-term studio downsizing and shift in focus towards post-production monitoring.

This is the original-generation SU-017 that established Soyuz’s international reputation. The later Tube V2 introduced changes to the external PSU and presentation package; Soyuz has confirmed to me that the microphone body, capsule design, circuit and sonic character remain the same.

The complete system includes both capsules, PSU, original cable, Soyuz shockmount, three unused spare valves supplied by Soyuz, original documentation and a fitted Pelican 1550 case.

Technical Specification

• Large-diaphragm valve condenser microphone
• Cardioid polar pattern (standard capsule)
• Omni polar pattern (with included omni capsule)
• External power supply unit included
• Handmade in Russia

Condition

Excellent throughout. The brass body has one small cosmetic manufacturing blemish which has been present since the microphone was supplied new. The close-up photograph deliberately shows this at high magnification; it is an imperfection in the manufactured/aged brass finish, not a burn, corrosion, impact mark or damage from use. It has never changed and has absolutely no bearing on the microphone’s performance or functionality.

The microphone, both capsules, power supply, shockmount, cable and accessories are all in excellent condition. All electronics function perfectly. The three spare valves supplied by Soyuz are unused. Both walnut presentation boxes are clean and unmarked, and the Pelican 1550 case and custom foam are in excellent condition.

What’s Included

• Soyuz SU-017 valve microphone body — in its original Soyuz walnut wooden box
• Soyuz omni capsule — in its own separate Soyuz walnut wooden box
• External Soyuz power supply unit
• Original Soyuz multi-pin cable
• Soyuz shockmount
• Three spare valves provided directly by Soyuz
• Original spare fuse for the power supply
• Original Soyuz manual
• Original Soyuz cardboard outer box if desired — though this has seen some use and is not in pristine condition
• Black Pelican 1550 hard case with custom foam — this houses the microphone in its walnut box, the omni capsule in its walnut box, the power supply, cable, shockmount and all accessories

The Pelican case is the primary storage and transport solution for this package. Both the microphone and the omni capsule sit in their individual Soyuz walnut boxes within the Pelican foam, giving outstanding protection.

Shipping

Shipping costs vary considerably by destination, so please contact me before purchasing and I’ll obtain the best suitable fully insured shipping option for your location.

The complete system can be shipped in the Pelican 1550 case, securely double-boxed, fully tracked and insured to the declared value. Because of the size of the Pelican case, courier pricing is based largely on volumetric weight.

Alternatively, the microphone and capsules can be shipped securely in their individual walnut boxes without the Pelican case, which may substantially reduce the shipping cost.

For EU buyers, mainland Spain dispatch may also be available by prior arrangement. Please contact me and I can confirm the best option for your destination.

All equipment and packaging will be photographed before dispatch.
