We are selling this Grote Jazz style semi-hollowbody guitar in great condition in nice Crossrock brand hard shell case. This guitar alone weighs 5 lb 13.3 oz and inside the case the total weight is 15 lb 2.5 oz
This is part an estate more than 70 guitars I just received from a great player and friend, who I fondly remember most for his positive sunny attitude even though he had health problems. He was told more than 30 years ago that he had less than a year to live without heart surgery. They have improved a lot from then. He looked into the recovery and extended life and opted out. His health got worse the past few years and he didn’t get around so he purchased guitars. The following was the description he wrote:
Often marketed as a thinline or hollow-body P90 guitar) the Grote Jazzmaster is widely praised as an exceptional budget instrument, frequently cited as costing between $170-$220 and offering remarkable value for its price. Reviewers highlight its attractive aesthetics, comfortable neck, and good, woody tones suitable for jazz, blues, and rockabilly. While some note potential for minor quality control issues—such as the need for a basic setup or minor fretwork—the consensus is that it is a highly playable, solid, and worthy "gig-ready" guitar for the money.
Key Features and Performance
·Pickups & Tone: The single or dual P90 pickups provide a "vintage" warm sound that is responsive and well-suited for jazz and blues, though they can be prone to feedback at high gain due to the hollow body.
·Build & Aesthetics: Features often include a flame top, block inlays, and multi-ply binding, offering a high-end look at a budget price.
·Playability: The neck is generally described as a comfortable C-shape or slightly chunky, featuring well-finished, smooth frets.
·Hardware: Tuners are functional but considered a common, albeit optional, upgrade, and the floating bridge may require careful setup for accurate intonation.
Pros
·Exceptional Value: Unbeatable price-to-performance ratio, with many finding it better than expected for under $200.
·Good Sound: Warm, woody, and classic P90 tones.
·Attractive Design: Visually appealing with nice finishes and inlays.
Cons
·QC Variability: Some units may have minor defects or require fret end filing.
·Bridge/Tuning: The floating bridge can make intonation challenging to set, and tuners can be slightly loose or "jumpy".
·Feedback: As a hollow body, it is prone to feedback at high volumes.
Common Modifications
Users often replace the tuners, perform a professional setup, and sometimes upgrade the electronics to further improve performance.
Overall, the Grote Jazzmaster-style guitar is considered a fantastic "bang-for-your-buck" option, ideal for beginners, hobbyists, or as an affordable, reliable, and stylish gigging instrument.
