Taylor's Convertible 1x12" Guitar Cabinet, in Craftsman/Mission style, is a new type of guitar cabinet designed and built specifically for the bedroom or den guitar player, rather than for the traveling musician.

If you’re looking for a custom 1x12" guitar speaker cabinet that becomes part of your home decor as a chair-side table, this may be the solution. Between practice sessions, this guitar cabinet blends seamlessly into your space as a finely crafted piece of furniture.

I've named it a Convertible Guitar Cabinet because of how quickly and easily it CONVERTS from a tightly-focused "Closed-back" sound to a wider, more "Open-back" soundstage.

By opening the solid Oak side panels you create a stereo-like effect to the left and to the right, in addition to the speaker's expected volume exiting through the front Grill Cloth.

You can choose a newly installed speaker from either:

Jensen Vintage P12R8 12" Alnico Speaker, 8 ohm, 25 Watts

Weber 12" Alnico Signature Series 12S Speaker, 8 ohm, 25 Watts

Celestion Vintage 30 12" G12, T3903A Speaker 8 ohm, 60 Watts

Or any other brand and model of 12" guitar speaker that I could custom order for you, up to $110. If you prefer to buy the cabinet without an installed speaker, I'll reduce the price accordingly.

Behind the vertical slats of the “furniture” back side and behind the Oxblood Grill Cloth of the “speaker” front side are void-free European Baltic Birch front-speaker and back-wall baffles, creating the tight acoustic resonance chamber you expect from a high-quality guitar cabinet.

The cabinet's internal dimensions measure 18" long × 10" wide × 16" high (2,880 cubic inches or 1.67 Cubic Feet). Celestion's excellent website "Crafting the Ideal 1×12 Guitar Cabinet: A DIY Guide" states, "recommended internal volume for a versatile 1×12 guitar cabinet falls in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 cubic ft."

When you open a side panel, you’ll see a deer-hide braid hanging down, with an end clasp to loop through the handles of each side panel and then to attach the clasp anywhere along the braid. Infinitely adjust the angle of the side panels to fine-tune the direction and amount of your sound projection.

The basis of this guitar cabinet is a solidly-built, finely-crafted, solid wood, chair-side table with drawer imported from Brazil. The design, craftsmanship, shape, and size are excellent to create a Guitar Cabinet from.

After applying coats of Ebony Stain and Wipe-On Polyurethane for a rich, hand-rubbed finish on the Baltic Birch baffles and the Oak panels, I polish and protect the finish of the entire cabinet with Goddard's Cabinet & Wood Wax Spray.

Unlike some commercially-produced guitar cabinets, there is no MDF, no HDF, no particleboard, nor any kind of poorly engineered wood products.

The long, sliding drawer has dovetail joints and interior dimensions of 17" Long x 4.5" Wide x 2.5" Deep, providing convenient storage for picks, tuners, cables, capos, etc.

Smooth Furniture Sliders on the leg bottoms help when moving or rotating the cabinet on carpet or hardwood floors. And weighing less than 50 pounds with the installed speaker, it's easy to move around.

I would respond to custom requests for alternate colors for the Oak side panels or the Baltic Birch baffles, an alternate type of grill cloth, or to request which side the sliding drawer is positioned on.

Message me on this page with any custom requests or to receive a custom quote. As these cabinets are custom-made, and built one-at-a-time in my Bethany, Oregon workshop, you may have to wait a few days before I can ship.

I will be away from home for most of the week of June 9-15 and would ship after my return.
