This microphone is one of the real true classics when you're thinking of vintage microphones. The 55 series was introduced in 1939 and called "The Fat Boy." The Shure Company were marketing geniuses. So popular were their products, especially their model 55 microphones, they even licensed them to sell through other multiple companies that specialized in audio products  for institutional entities like school, libraries, factories, public address, as well as radio stations.

     Over the decades, the Shure 55 has taken its place in history as the world's most recognized microphone. This is one of the earlier 55's, the 55C was specifically designed for broadcasting, and to find one of these with great shape, especially with clean undamaged original grill cloth, is a rare thing. And it goes to show how well thing one was taken care of. Testing responds with a good clean signal which you can hear when you check out the voice sample on the listing video.
