It hardly gets more iconic than a D-18 – especially one from 1949. This cannon of a guitar plays like a dream and delivers the classic “dry” tone that vintage Martin guitars with mahogany back and sides are known for. The Sitka spruce top ensures plenty of tonal headroom and clarity.
The guitar is original in almost every respect, although the fingerboard has been replaced with a period-correct Brazilian rosewood board due to intonation. At the same time, it received new frets, a new bridge insert, and a new saddle, and now intonates perfectly.
A fresh neck reset ensures excellent playability with a perfect action.
Approximately 450 D-18s were produced in 1949.
