Recently we commemorated the 45th anniversary of Michael Bloomfield's death. Sadly he passed away far too soon, renowned as a fantastic guitar virtuoso, solo artist, member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Bob Dylan's sidekick during his legendary performance at the Newport Folk Festival. For many years he was a dedicated Telecaster player and later also played a Goldtop equipped with P90 pickups. However, after becoming the proud owner of a 1959 Les Paul in 1967 there was no turning back. In Bloomfield's honor the Gibson Custom Shop released a strictly limited-edition replica of this guitar in 2009. We are pleased to offer you serial number 42 of the Aged version, limited to 100 specimens. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder and for us a '59 Bloomfield is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Les Pauls. But this particular example really caught our eye: a gorgeous flame top in the legendary "Bloomfield Burst" finish with a pronounced grain and a beautiful color gradient. None other than Tom Murphy himself meticulously recreated the detailed aging process, painstakingly replicating every tiny mark of play and wear on the original. The aged hardware perfectly complements the look, complete with a blackened bridge screw. Even the control knobs are spot-on, combining top-hats with a reflector and a speed knob. The somewhat stronger '59 neck offers a fantastic playing feel and sits extremely comfortably in the hand. Sonically, the two Burstbuckers deliver rich, clean tones with sparkling highs, as well as screaming, gritty distortion with plenty of punch. Plugged into an amp it truly shines: fat, nuanced Les Paul sounds brimming with tone and character! Aged Bloomfields were only available on the market for a short time, as they sold out immediately. Even today these exceptional Les Pauls are extremely rare. Therefore this guitar combines the highest rarity and collector value with phenomenal sound and superb playability!
