Jerry Jones Neptune Shorthorn Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (2009), made in Nashville, TN, serial # 098631, black lacquer with vinyl siding finish, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

This is an excellent playing and sounding Retro-Modern instrument, one of the "classic" Danelectro re-creations built by the now-closed, much-missed Jerry Jones workshop in Nashville. It is basically a modernized version of the c. 1961 Danelectro U-2, one of the most sought after of the original New Jersey models. This exact variant is famous as the "Jimmy Page" guitar as used onstage with Led Zeppelin for open-tuned songs.

Jones' tweaks to the original design include an adjustable truss rod, solidly body-mounted adjustable non-trem Strat-style bridge instead of the elevated wood-saddle Danno style with the strings running through the body and Gotoh individual tuners. "Tweakin' Tradition" was the slogan for the Neptune models, and this is certainly a nice example of that philosophy in action. This is a late production example from 2009, not long before production ended leaving Jones instruments often as (or more) sought after than the Neptune originals.

Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This guitar is in just lightly used condition, appearing only minimally played. It shows showing very some light scuffing and a few tiny dings to the finish on the edges. This is a fine example of Jones' later period work, an excellent playing and sounding instrument worthy of its original inspiration. It resides in the original HSC with the Jerry Jones hangtag.
