Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1960's / 70'd era Shure Brothers PE-55 model dynamic cardioid microphone with a bright, clear tone. This is a rare variant of The Shure 55S line up. This particular model came with the black foam screens and rectangular black Shure badge & on / off switch. Shure Brothers offered this specific mic in the Hi Z setting only which was a good match for certain audio equipment utilizing the hi Z input such as many HAM radio set ups or guitar amps. This mic comes with the original mic cable and red mic pouch.

The standard 55S had the Hi , med & Lo Z switch setting but the PE-55 came factory set at Hi Z. You'll see that the PE-55 comes with it's original 22 foot cable in which to operate. The uni-directional characteristics on these mics are outstanding drowning out almost all background noise.

The legendary 55S microphone was used by many famous artists and politicians over the years including Elvis Presley and even the young revolutionary Fidel Castro. Those clean lines and deco styling make this mic stand out from all the others produced over the last century. Made in Evanston, IL U.S.A. This mic is a nice piece of midcentury Americana.

It should be noted that this mic has an excellent working dynamic cardioid element with strong output. The Hi Z tone of the PE-55 has a dirtier tone to it. Again, very bright in nature.   Many of these older mics barely work at all or need a lot of TLC. This was one of them. It has been thoroughly cleaned, Everything tightened up. The inner element is well secured now and the black foam screens were professionally replaced. The on / off switch works perfect as well as it was cleaned.

As seen in the pictures provided this mic the satin chrome shows extremely lite cosmetic wear and about as nice as you could ask for. The finish has a very nice luster. Just a few scuff marks here and there. There are zero bent or fractured ribs on this mic and was very well taken care of. The Shure label shows the most wear but still legible. Overall this mic is a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

I take the time to secure the inner element as it's held in place with 3 shock mounts that wear out with age. Once the element becomes loose it's almost impossible to use these live as they create too much unwanted feedback from banging around. This one is good to go. Nice and snug...no worries for decades to come. If you attempt to do this yourself you can easily damage the element as they are prone to static electrical charges that will ruin it.

The threads for the cable are excellent and the joint mechanism holds strong. The threading for the stand is perfect as well and this will screw onto any desk or floor stand you wish to use.

The mic comes with a quality cable that's appx 22 feet in length giving you a bit of room to work with. Soft, pliable and free of damage. It comes with a quality male Switchcraft male 1/4 inch end connector so you can use this mic with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers.

The red velvet mic pouch shows quite a bit of wear but still a good place to store the mic when not in use. It will keep the scratches away.

If you demand an excellent working daily 55S then this will be a fun go to.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
