Bought a couple years ago. It has been great and served its purpose but I no longer have a need for it.
Modified it buy adding a pick guard (plastic surface for suction cups) so I could use a guitar rest and put it in a more comfortable position for playing. No you cannot remove it. If you really don't like it you could reach out to AJL on their website and ask for just this part of the guitar in the same style / finish.
