The unmistakable sound of lap steel

Often associated with Hawaiian and bluegrass music, the sound of a lap steel guitar has a wonderfully fluid sound that fits well with blues and country styles, too. Crank up the overdrive on your amp, and you have a fresh new voice for rock tracks; similar to electric slide guitar, but thicker and more syrupy. The G5700’s mahogany body and string-through-body design provide exceptional sustain and tonal richness, and the Gretsch single-coil pickup has just the right amount of bite to stand out in any mix.

Gretsch’s legacy in American music

The G5700 Electromatic lap steel transports you back to Gretsch’s roots in American music. Everyone knows Gretsch electric guitars and drums, but did you know that got their start in 1883 as a banjo company? It wasn’t long before Gretsch was making mandolins, ukuleles, and eventually flat-top and lap steel guitars, contributing to the very roots of American music. So when you make music on a Gretsch, you’re playing more than a great instrument: you’re playing a piece of American music history.
