Martin / 1961 D-28

- A D-28 with specifications up to 1964

The ebony down-belly bridge features long saddles.
This specification was used from 1934 to 1964, and was later replaced with short saddles.
Although the bridge has been replaced, it is beautifully crafted and glued.

The maple bridge plate has been reinforced with the same maple material due to wear at the strap pin holes caused by years of playing.
This also affects tuning and tone, so you can see from the photo that it has been carefully repaired.

The tortoiseshell pickguard is a reddish type.
This specification was used until around 1965, after which it was changed to a black one.

The top is crafted from spruce, with multicolored purfling and ivoroid binding.

The sides and back are crafted from beautifully striped Brazilian rosewood, and the top binding is crafted from ivoroid.

The fingerboard is made of ebony and features mother-of-pearl position markers.
A distinctive feature is that the dots become smaller as you move toward the higher frets.

The neck is made of mahogany and features a thick V-shaped neck.
The neck is over-lacquered.
A strap pin has been added to the heel.

The headstock is made of Brazilian rosewood veneer and has a rounded shape, with over-lacquered sides on the headstock.

The tuning machines are Grover 102s with a PAT stamp.
The headstock and back are also over-lacquered.

The wide range and sound dispersion of this D-28 are so impressive that it's hard to believe it can sound so good, especially after such careful repair. It's a special instrument, boasting specifications dating back to the mid-1960s.

Repair/Modification History/Replacement Parts/Condition, etc.

This is a used/vintage item, and information is based on our own inspection.

- There is a repaired crack on the upper left of the body top.
- There is paint peeling on the right side of the body (at the waist).
- There are visible signs of a neck reset.
- The bridge has been replaced.
- The string holes on the bridge plate have been reinforced and repaired.
- The saddle has been replaced with an ivory one.
- The neck and headstock (including sides) have been over-lacquered, excluding the fingerboard.
- A strap pin has been added to the neck heel.

[Playing Condition]
- There are no muffled notes or buzzing sounds, and the instrument is in excellent playing condition.
- String height at the 12th fret: 2.7mm on the 6th string, 2.1mm on the 1st string
- Saddle overhang: Approximately 2.0mm
