For sale: a killer and rarely seen 2001 Fender American Fat Telecaster in VG condition and perfect working order. Freshly set up with 9-42 gauge strings, this guitar plays beautifully with a straight neck, low action, and spot-on intonation. The bridge pickup has been upgraded with a Lollar Vintage T made for StewMac (7.8k) and the original Fender DH-1 is retained in the neck position, both of which sound exceptional.

Cosmetically, this instrument is clean and has been well cared for over the years. That’s said, it has been played so it exhibits the typical signs of use: dings, dents, light scratches and swirl marks. There’s also a small crack in the pickguard that radiates from a screw hole just north of the neck pickup on the cutaway side. The original frets look great still only showing the slightest hint wear on frets 1-3 mostly under the plain strings. Be sure to check out the photos for a closer look—and please excuse any reflections.

In addition to the aforementioned upgraded bridge pickup, the capacitor on the control plate has been swapped out. The pots, 5-way switch and wiring all appear to be original to the best of our knowledge.

It’s worth noting that this somewhat short-lived model (2000–2003) doesn’t come up for sale very often. This example is factory-correct, with “Fat” stamped in the neck pickup cavity, confirming it’s a genuine American Fat Telecaster and not a standard Tele that was later modified.

Includes the original molded Fender hard case.
