1991 Fender Japan Esquire (TES54-650) Butterscotch Blonde, MIJ, FujiGen

Available here is a clean and increasingly hard-to-find FujiGen-built 1991 Fender Japan TES54-650 Esquire, featuring a 2-piece centre-seam ash body paired with a one-piece vintage-tint maple neck.

Included is an aftermarket gig bag—the hardcase is photo purposes.

First introduced in 1985, the TES54 was produced in relatively small numbers through to 1993 as part of Fender Japan’s highly regarded vintage reissue series. Unlike a standard Telecaster, the Esquire is fitted with a single vintage-style bridge pickup and traditional 3-way Esquire wiring. Appointments include a sen ash body, vintage-style 3-brass saddle bridge, maple fingerboard, and classic Butterscotch Blonde finish.

Our 1991 example—dated via the pots and pencil marking at the neck heel—is all original with the exception of a professionally cut replacement bone nut.

Condition-wise, the guitar is fully functional and structurally sound. Cosmetically, it remains very well preserved for its age, showing only very light surface marks and a small ding to the rear near the string ferrules (as pictured). Overall wear is minimal for a 1991 instrument and is very clean. The neck and fretboard are clean, and the frets retain plenty of life.

All electronics are original and operate flawlessly. The vintage-style hardware displays only light patina, consistent with careful ownership and modest use.

All told, this is a strong, well-kept example of a sought-after early-’90s FujiGen built Fender Japan Esquire and stands as both an inspiring player and a collectible piece from Fender Japan’s golden era.
