1966 Kay K563 Speed Demon - Red, Reconstructed
This is a 1966 Kay K563, known previously as the Speed Demon. The "bushwhacker" headstock was used on models only during this year. I found the guitar as a stripped husk (see pictures.) The very slim neck was twisted and the truss rod didn't work. I sent it to David Gregory of Eman Guitars, who built a replica neck (but he saved the original pick fretboard inlays) and refinished it all in original cherry red. No original parts but faithful replicas were found. The Lowrider Victory Gold Foil pickups sound great, most likely better than the original anonymous humbuckers, which were not the same as previous well known Kay models. The original would have had a trapeze tailpiece but I decided to use a Bigsby B11. The 5 way selector switch follows the Strat pattern. Includes a non-original padded gig bag.
