BBC LL238 Transformers - Pair - Jack In & Out - Step Down

A pair of BBC LL238 transformers each mounted in a cast box with TRS Jacks in and out. These are very sizable transformers indeed & are well matched.

These transformers were commonly used for ‘matching’ in many vintage BBC units & systems. They are EI laminated types & use high grade laminations.

If used as per the label on the units (e.g. in on the left / out on the right) then they step down with a ratio of (approx) 2:1. If you reverse your jack plugs and feed signal into the ’output’ and take your output from the ‘input’) they will step up with a ratio of approx 1:2. It’s possible to wire these for other ratios too, please ask if you want further info etc. The Jacks are floating balanced in and out - the transformers have interwinding screens which are connected to sleeve on the input jack socket and to the case for screening purposes. The ground lift switch sits between that point and the sleeve on the output jack socket.

There are people selling these with claims about the audio effect they impart. As with all audio transformers, there response is heavily dependent on source and load impedances / capacitances etc hence i’ll refrain from making any statements about ‘their sound’. That said they are (obviously) very good sounding transformers, offered at a very reasonable price. In good condition, tested & fully working.
