Video présentation of this guitar.

Guitar and is original case PRS. Ultra versatile PRS Guitar.

The PRS Swamp Ash Special (SAS) is a true (and brilliant) anomaly in the Paul Reed Smith catalog. The SAS arrived to compete with Fender in 1997. This model, particularly the hardtail version, is now a collector's item. The Swamp Ash Special is PRS's answer to guitarists who found the Custom models too "polished" or too dark. The Swamp Ash body provides crystalline highs, tight bass, and a slightly scooped midrange. It's a very responsive wood to attack. The bolt-on maple neck delivers that immediate "snap" or "twang" not found on set necks. The "HSH" pickup configuration offers unprecedented versatility. Regarding the hardtail: while most SAS models were released with a vibrato, the hardtail version is rarer. It offers rock-solid tuning stability and a more direct wood/string vibration transfer, enhancing sustain. Thanks to its 3-way selector switch and push-pull tone knob, the 1997 SAS is a true sonic Swiss Army knife. McCarty: Powerful, vintage-hot. Perfect for rock and saturated blues. Middle: Duncan Vintage Rails: A "Strat"-type sound but without the hum-cancelling. Bright and precise. Neck: McCarty Humbucker: Round, flute-like, very woody thanks to the ash body. The Push-Pull: By activating the push-pull, you engage the middle pickup in parallel with the split coils of the humbuckers. You then get the famous 2nd and 4th positions of a Stratocaster (the characteristic "quack"), but with more body. The Factory's Golden Age (Pre-Factory feel): Late 90s models are considered to have benefited from exceptional attention to detail. The Alternative to the "Super-Strat": It offers the reliability and ergonomics of PRS (25-inch scale length) with the edgy character of a California-style guitar. The Hardtail's Rarity: Sustain purists often prefer the absence of a vibrato cavity, making this specific version harder to find on the used market.

The guitar is in very good condition. The neck shows some patina from playing (see photo). The frets are in good condition with no fret buzz. The mechanics have been replaced, but the original ones are included with the case. There's some wear and tear, and just a small dent on the edge under the pickup selector (see photos). The weight is 3.5 kg (3.6 kg depending on the scale).
