Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic older general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice in the 1950's. This is the earlier 2nd generation 630 that has the polished chrome housing and period stand in which to display but it no longer works and should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old E.V catalog I have showing the mics basic characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows Jerry Lee Lewis using one of these very mics. Probably used an E.V 630 singing Great balls of Fire at some point in his career.

This mic was typically used for dispatch and broadcasting purposes but was even used for singing for live events as seen in pic # 3. The photo is of Jerry Lee Lewis.

The mic housing / head is reminiscent of the jet engines being used by several American and Soviet fight planes of the 1940's and 50's. The look was very popular but by the 1960's the look was dated and just not as popular as the earlier models were.

Despite the non-working status of this mic it is 100% complete inside and out.

The 70 + year old microphone has typical wear as you can see with scuff marks and scratches but it's free of any pitting or dents. The threads for the cable and stand are perfect with zero stripping. The E.V label looks very good and completely legible. Overall this piece is an easy 7  on a scale of 1 - 10.

The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. The on / off switch works great as well and just needs a replacement element if you plan on using this mic again.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The mic comes with a period E.V 423A model microphone desk stand. This is an all aluminum stand with a satin chrome finish and satin chrome stem / riser. This model was widely produced by Electro Voice during the 1950's through 1970's. As you can see the stand thread itself is universal and any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it.

This particular E.V stand has typical wear as you can see. Some small scuff marks, scratches and lite pitting on the base. There are no dents or fractures on this stand and the satin chrome stem shows very lite wear as well. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. All 3 original rubber pads are included and in great shape.

Mic stand with mic is appx 11 inches tall X 5 inches wide. The 423A is fairly stable and can be used on small, medium and some larger mics. Mic stand is a true 7 on a scale of 1 - 10.

This will make a great display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office.
