A rare one.

Here is a Valco made Gretsch 6170 35 watt tube combo with a 115 Jensen speaker. These were only produced for a short time. They were originally made for bass (pretty hopeless) but shine with guitar. This one is factory original right down to the tubes. It still has the ungrounded two-pronged plug. With all vintage tube amps, we highly suggest that a qualified tech see to it before regular use as it is in it's original condition. If you do not understand what you are buying, then don't. This is a very rare, 60 yr old amp. It's special and requires special care. It is not a mass produced 2026 plug and play amp but the rewards are huge! Nothing can replace the magic, warmth and feel of a vintage tube amp. This amp has come from a studio environment and was cared for appropriately. This one is in good condition with only the slightest bit of corrosion on the chassis and a few pulls in the grill cloth. Each of our amps is tested on a variac before shipping.

This is really cool. You are looking at a 1968 Gretsch Model 6170 Pro Bass Amp. These amps are very versatile. Similar to a Fender Bassman, the Gretsch 6170 Pro Bass Amp has found it's niche more as a guitar amp than a bass amp. This Valco-made 35 Watt amplifier is the Gretsch-branded version of the legendary Supro Thunderbolt--widely known for its association with early Led Zepplin recordings. The Pro Bass features the same transformers, 1x15 speaker arrangement, and cathode-biased 6L6 output stage. The Original 15" Jensen Speaker gives off a great vintage tone. This amp screams! It has a great clean tone that turns into a superb overdrive as you work your way up the volume knob: this one will be a winner for stage or studio work. It is fully functional and sounds fantastic.

The Pro Bass is identical to the last Supro Thunderbolts, the Harmony 420 and the National Thunderball. That is, a great and simple tube amp with a few "quirks." Input stage is stifled to prevent distortion (remember- this 35watt amp was meant for "bass"), and the treble and bass tone controls are nearly useless for the guitar tone spectrum. Stock, it can sound good with a boost, but with a few simple mods, it can be a stellar amp- it is a cathode biased Valco with a 15" Jensen speaker! Usually cheap enough that you can do anything you want with it without guilt. Had one that I opened up the input resistance to Fender specs, and modified the tone controls to something a little more usable for guitar- fender brown Treble-Bass, if I remember right. Sounded much healthier.
