Novation Launchkey 49 MK4 49-key Keyboard Controller -NEW

In brief: 49-note MIDI Keyboard Controller with Semi-weighted Keys, 9 Faders, 8 Rotary Encoders, 16 Performance Pads, 3 Chord Modes, Transport Controls, Sustain In, USB-MIDI, 5-pin MIDI Out, USB Cable, and Bundled Software

Novation’s Launchkey MIDI controllers have long stood among the most powerful and intuitive tools in modern music production, seamlessly uniting composition, performance, and control into a single streamlined platform. With the Launchkey MK4 series, Novation elevates this legacy even further, delivering a new benchmark in creative integration that effortlessly bridges the physical and virtual worlds.

Designed for today’s diverse music-making landscape, the Launchkey MK4 balances power, precision, and broad compatibility in a way few controllers can. Deep DAW integration, fully customizable controller profiles, and both USB-C MIDI and traditional MIDI outputs allow the Launchkey MK4 to adapt to virtually any workflow — from laptop-based studios to DAW-free hardware rigs. Whether controlling software instruments, external synths, or mobile setups via Novation Play, every custom mapping, MIDI CC, and performance nuance is transmitted with exceptional accuracy from its velocity-sensitive synth-style keys, expressive modulation controls, transport functions, and polyphonic aftertouch-enabled pads.

The Launchkey MK4 family includes 25-, 37-, 49-, and 61-key models, alongside compact Mini 25- and Mini 37-key versions that pack the same advanced feature set into a highly portable design. Each model features responsive synth-action keys that capture subtle playing dynamics, while an array of continuous encoders, soft buttons, and faders can be freely assigned for hands-on control in virtually any DAW or live environment. Sixteen RGB-backlit FSR (Force Sensitive Resistor) performance pads provide velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch, making them ideal for expressive drum programming, clip launching, sample triggering, and multidimensional sound shaping.

Performance versatility is at the heart of the Launchkey MK4. Compared to previous generations, MK4 models deliver significantly enhanced DAW integration, including an advanced DAW Transport Mode with deeper control over Ableton Live’s step sequencer. The onboard Scale Mode now includes 30 total scales — spanning major and minor, harmonic and pentatonic scales, Greek modes, and global scale systems — ensuring you always stay in key. The upgraded generative arpeggiator allows per-step editing for detailed pattern creation, and works seamlessly alongside three powerful scale modes:

• Scale Snap – Automatically corrects out-of-scale notes to the nearest valid pitch

• Scale Filter – Mutes out-of-scale notes in real time

• Scale Easy – Remaps scales to the white keys, replacing C with the root note

To further expand creative control, the Launchkey MK4 introduces advanced chord features supported by a bright OLED display and real-time Chord Detector. Three Chord Modes are included: Fixed Chord, User Chord, and Chord Map. Fixed Chord allows complex harmonies to be played with a single key, while User Chord Mode lets you store up to 16 custom chords across the performance pads, with instant transposition by semitone or octave.

Chord Map mode transforms the Launchkey MK4 into a standalone harmonic instrument. Pads are divided into chord triggers and performance tools, while dedicated encoders control expressive parameters such as:

• Adventure – Increases harmonic complexity from familiar progressions to adventurous jazz-inspired voicings

• Explore – Narrows or expands chord variations tied to each Adventure level

• Spread – Adjusts chord voicing from tight clusters to wide, multi-octave arrangements

• Roll – Adds a strum-style, time-based articulation to chords

Extensive plug-and-play integration is provided for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Reaper, Reason, and more. For deeper customization, Novation’s Components software enables fully personalized MIDI mappings for nearly any hardware or software instrument. The Launchkey 49 and 61 MK4 models also include Split and Layer functionality, allowing multiple MIDI zones or simultaneous control of separate MIDI channels.

Every Launchkey MK4 features a sustain pedal input and MIDI output for seamless integration into studio, live, and hybrid setups. Mini models use 3.5mm MIDI connections, while larger versions feature standard 5-pin MIDI outputs. All models are class-compliant, ensuring effortless connection to a wide range of devices without drivers.

Included Software Bundle

Each Launchkey MK4 comes with a robust software package to get you creating immediately. Ableton Live Lite is included for recording, producing, and performing, along with a curated collection of virtual instruments and effects from Klevgrand, GForce, and Orchestral Tools. To support skill development, Novation also includes Melodics courses for both beginner and advanced keyboard players.

Additionally, Launchkey MK4 owners receive free access to Novation Play, a custom plug-in synth developed with Klevgrand. Featuring over 80 expertly designed presets — including pads, leads, basses, kits, and more — Novation Play integrates seamlessly with Launchkey controls for an optimized, expressive workflow right out of the box.
