I recently finished a restoration of this Maestro PS-1B. While the circuit itself was engaging, the phaser's LFO was anemic at best. To bring it back to life, I replaced the main MC1458 IC with a vintage MC1458 from my stash and performed a full recap. Swapping out the power filter capacitors was the real turning point; it balanced the + and - rails and finally restored the effect. Two of the internal trim pots allow for shaping the LFO to dial in specific textures, but the variable speed is where the magic really happens and what really sets the PS-1B apart from the the other PS models.

The finishing touches included a deep clean of the PCB and a full solder reflow. Honestly, looking at how clean the board is now brings a smile to my face.

Condition

• Full electrolytic recap – all original electrolytic replaced with high-grade modern equivalents
• Corrosion removal – oxidized wire ends and internal chassis areas were cleaned and treated
• Internal condition: Excellent — fully cleaned PCB, no residual flux, clean rework

• External condition: Very Good — enclosure shows surface scratches (see photo) but no dents or structural damage
• Controls: Power switch, speed knob, and all three phase switches are clean and operate correctly

Notes for Collectors & Musicians

This is an excellent choice for players and studios seeking a properly serviced, dependable PS-1B with original tonal character intact.
