Ted Reed's, Geo. B. Stone & Son, 6.5x14" Master-Model, 24-Lug Snare Drum, 1941 - Black Lacquer/Nickel Hardware

Here's another drum, dripping with history, that you don't see every day!!

The drum was built in 1941 by legendary drum builder George Lawrence Stone in 1941. The drum was made for a drummer named Tommy Hatch before eventually finding its way to another drumming legend, Ted Reed in 1983. Reed was a top call drummer in New York in the 1940s where he opened a small teaching studio and shop. Ted Reed is known most notably for authoring Progressive Steps To Syncopation For The Modern Drummer, better known as "Syncopation", perhaps the best selling snare drum method book of all time.

The drum includes a handwritten note from Ted Reed offering the drum for sale to its next owner. In the letter he indicates that he bought the drum in 1983. The letter is included with this drum.

The George Stone Master Model snare drum was a top choice of professional drummers for decades. Stone sold the drums as fast as he could produce them. The drum is still in high demand amongst symphonic and orchestral drummers.

The drum remains in 100% functional condition. The only flaws are minor cosmetic wear visible in the black lacquer finish and tarnish on the nickel hardware. 100% original except for the heads and wires.

12 individual tuning lugs top and bottom. The wood hoops and high rod count give it a focused, controlled response and a unique period-correct character, an exceptional collector/player piece.

We acquired the drum from Modern Drummer Magazine owner, David Frangioni. COA signed by David Frangioni is included.
