9 Vintage 1960's Homemade Single-Coil and Humbucking Pickups w/Belden Wire and 4 Scotch 3M Colored Electrical Tape Rolls. These are Shultz experimental pickups. Homemade Bobbins.
Backstory: These were handmade by my grandfather. He would make and invent things. He built some guitars and liked to tinker with pickup ideas. I used to have a Reverb account for our physical music store in Brandon, FL (we had the store for 42 years). I would sell some of his guitars through the store and Reverb. I closed the Reverb account years ago when our store sold, but now I am back with a personal account to sell more of his stuff.
The pickups were put through a tap test through an amp. The blue electrical tape on the pickups with writing are the most recent results. The brown tape or other writings on the pickups were written by my grandfather decades ago and some are not accurate currently. I didn't remove the brown tape because I don't really know what I am doing with a pickup and I didn't want to accidently damage it.
The items:
1. Stacked Humbucker: This pickup works very well! It is a unique idea of putting the pickups on top of each other. So, the physical depth on the pickup is deeper than normal. 1.27" deep. Pictures 4,5,6.
2. Single-Coil: This pickup works very well! Pictures 7,8.
3. Humbucker: This pickup has a weak sound. 1.23" deep. Pictures 9,10.
4. Single-Coil: This pickup has a weak sound. Pictures 11,12.
5. Humbucker: This pickup has a weak sound. Pictures 13,14,15.
6. Humbucker: Only one side of the pickup was able to produce a sound. 1.18" deep. Pictures 16,17.
7. Single-Coil: No Sound. Pictures 18,19.
8. Single-Coil: No Sound. Pictures 20,21.
9. Single-Coil: Broken, no poles. Pictures 22,23.
10. Belden Red Magnet Wire 8045 #38 Beldenamel 1/4lb Spool. There has been some wire taken off of this spool, but looks like there is still plenty left based on the amount I can see on the spool.
11. 4 Multi-colored Scotch 3M Electrical Tape Rolls. Red, Yellow, Green, and Brown. These rolls have been used so there is some missing on all the rolls. The adhesive is still usable.
The pickups that aren't working would be good to experiment with before attempting to build or repair a vintage pickup. The ones that are working could be a cool new sound you never knew you would like!
