2006 Gibson Custom Shop SJ-200 Koa - Limited Edition

A limited-edition 2006 Gibson Custom Shop SJ-200 acoustic/electric jumbo guitar with highly figured koa back and sides. An extraordinary acoustic instrument, this limited-edition SJ-200 features premium tone-woods. Sitka spruce top with highly figured koa back and sides create the kind of vibrance and clarity that brings out every nuance of your music. A special version of the iconic J-200 "King of the Flat-Tops" model, the SJ-200 Koa is a true masterpiece.

Built by Gibson’s master luthiers, handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, from premium tone-woods and components. They selected this guitar’s woods by hand, choosing flawless Sitka spruce for the top and gorgeous highly figured koa back and sides. The 2-piece flame maple neck looks amazing and its rosewood fretboard sports rolled edges for amazing playability. Outfitted with LR Baggs electronics for authentic amplified tone and featuring a 25.5" scale length with a 1.725" nut width, this instrument stands out for its performance-ready versatility. In excellent condition with only minor cosmetic signs of previous use, this SJ-200 Koa represents a valuable opportunity to own a legendary acoustic with premium tonewoods and timeless style.

Sound and tone:

The combination of Sitka spruce and koa, along with its jumbo body shape, gives this guitar a unique and sought-after sound.

  • Crispness and clarity: The koa wood contributes a crispness and clarity to the tone.
  • Rich projection: The jumbo body shape provides a powerful projection and rich, resonant sound.
  • Focused midrange: The tone is well-balanced, with a nice, fat low end and a focus on the midrange frequencies.
  • Versatility: It is well-suited for both strumming and intricate fingerpicking.

Limited Availability:

A rare Gibson SJ-200 Koa limited production run. The use of specific, expensive, tonewoods like Hawaiian koa means these guitars are never mass-produced. The number of SJ-200 Koa guitars made in 2006 would have been a limited quantity, likely well under 200.
