The Roland G-505 is a vintage guitar synthesizer controller from the early 1980s, designed to work with Roland's GR-300 and GR-700 guitar synthesizers. It features a Stratocaster-style body made of ash, a one-piece maple neck, and three Roland PU-134S single-coil pickups. A dedicated hexaphonic MIDI pickup near the bridge sends individual string signals to the synth unit.
The Roland GR-300 is an analog polyphonic guitar synthesizer introduced by Roland Corporation in 1980, widely regarded as the first truly playable guitar synthesizer, overcoming the tracking issues that plagued its predecessor, the GR-500. It features 6-voice polyphony, with one voice assigned to each string of the guitar, and two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) per voice, which are harmonically locked to the pitch of each string but can be tuned independently. The synthesizer uses a hexaphonic pickup system on the guitar controller to send individual string signals to separate pitch-to-voltage conversion circuits, enabling real-time, low-latency tracking.
