Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome..
You are looking at a very unique 2nd generation 1960's / 70's era Electro Voice 644 model dynamic "shotgun" microphone with an original painted stock finish that comes with the short cable in which to operate as well as the period Atlas DS-14 "boomerang" desk stand which makes a very stable and attractive platform for this mic.
It should be noted right away that this microphone does work very well though the elements on these mics are generally not super strong like your typical stick mic. That's just the way these are designed. You can actually use this microphone if you need too but you'll want to use as much gain as possible to boost the signal strength. I usually sell these as prop mics even when they work but this example is one of the strongest 644's I have heard in some time now. If you do buy a "working" 644 from another seller make sure it actually works well enough to use because 50% of the 644 models I come across just aren't suitable.
Pic # 2 shows this very model in the E.V line up of shotgun models. The other two examples seen were much better quality and much more expensive than the 644.
This mic was originally used at Clinton Community College and it still has the aluminum tag on the side of the lower pistol grip.
The 644 was a very bizarre and unique looking mic that stands out like few others. It came out originally in the early 1950's and was the entry level shotgun style mic that E.V built. They actually made much better higher end studio shotgun microphones over the years but if you were on a tight budget and just needed the most basic model you could buy then the 644 was an option for you. It certainly draws attention anywhere it's displayed.
This 644 is currently wired for Hi Z and would be great for any HAM radio set up or other audio equipment that is equipped to take a Hi Z mic. The mic has a clear tone that is void of bass.
This mic as you can see is in pretty good condition overall. Just a few lite scratches, a couple lite scuff marks and a couple tiny paint chips. Certainly better than most 644's you find out there. The mic is free of any dents or engravings. The E.V badge looks amazing and the on / off switch works great. Joint mechanism provides plenty of tension as well. I'd give this example a solid 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. You can screw this mic onto any stand you please as it has the universal thread size for stands though a stand is provided.
The mic is appx 16 inches in length.
The cable is a short 7 inches long that has the original 4 pin connector for the mic and it's in excellent condition being soft, pliable and free of damage. It has the standard male Switchcraft XLR end connector. Just leave the cable on the mic at all times and attach any longer XLR cable of choice as needed for extra length to your audio equipment.
MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The stand is a period 1960's era Atlas DS-4 model. It's an all metal cast iron design with flat black paint and compliments the 644 mic nicely and makes for a very stable platform. The stand has almost zero physical wear. The chrome riser gives a bit of height to work with and shows very lite wear. The stand itself is appx 3 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide X 7 inches deep. There's enough weight and width in the stand to keep the mic from falling over no matter how low the mic is tilted. All 3 felt pads on the bottom are new and in excellent shape.
Even if you don't actually use the mic it will make a great conversation piece anywhere it's display in the hoise, office or studio.
As with all my other vintage microphones...
