A Yamaha SG 85, a prime example of now-rare Japan vintage guitars manufactured around 1973, has arrived.

As the predecessor to the iconic SG series—known for its double cutaway design that represented Japan both domestically and internationally since the 1974 SG175 and 1976 SG2000—this model is affectionately called the “Daruma SG” by many users. Its body shape resembles a daruma doll, often displayed for celebrations.

It features high-quality Honduran mahogany for both the body and neck,

a wood now increasingly difficult to source given current timber availability.

The fingerboard is crafted from ebony, showcasing a beautiful luster and color.

This SG85 was prominently featured in Yamaha's 1973 catalog.

The original pickups offer just the right amount of power and are easy to use,

perfectly complementing the fine wood.

The original bridge design is also highly practical.

This guitar was cherished by its previous owner.

While it shows some scuffs and minor dents, it's in remarkably good condition for its age.

The frets and nut retain ample height,

and the neck is free of significant warping, making it very playable.

Basic components like the pickups, pots, and switches remain original.

A quintessential Japan Vintage guitar.

Interested customers should definitely take a look!

Comes with original soft case.
