📌 Overview

Legendary Harman Kardon 730 “Twin Power” stereo receiver from the mid-1970s, known for its dual-mono power amp design, sweet phono stage, and relaxed but detailed sound. This unit has been serviced and cleaned, and it’s ready to drop into your vintage or modern system as a true plug & play classic.

If you’ve been looking for a musical, slightly under-the-radar alternative to the usual Marantz/Pioneer/Sansui suspects, the 730 is one of the best values in vintage hi-fi: warm, spacious, and surprisingly authoritative for its rated power.

🧼 Condition

  • Faceplate: Clean overall with typical light wear for its age—no major dents, bends, or deep scratches. Printing and labels are intact and legible.
  • Dial glass & display: Clear and intact, tuning scale and indicators look great.
  • Knobs & switches: All original, present, and correct. Lettering around the controls is intact.
  • Top cover & chassis: Cleaned inside and out; shows normal small scuffs and marks from age and use, but nothing excessive.
  • Rear panel: Speaker terminals, RCA jacks, and antenna connections are intact and in good condition.

Please review all photos carefully—they are part of the description and show cosmetic condition better than words can.

Note: This listing is for the receiver only – no wood case is included.

🔧 Service & Testing

This Harman Kardon 730 has been serviced for maintenance, cleaned, and tested for reliable operation:

  • Internal dust and debris removed; unit cleaned inside and out.
  • All controls (volume, balance, tone, source selector, tape monitor, etc.) cleaned and treated for smoother, low-noise operation.
  • Inputs (AUX, Tuner, Tape, Phono) checked and verified working.
  • Both channels tested with real speakers at moderate listening levels—no obvious hum, crackling, or channel imbalance observed in testing.
  • Tuner section checked; pulls in local FM/AM stations as expected for a vintage receiver.

This is a serviced vintage unit, not a full “every capacitor replaced” restoration. Most original capacitors and components remain in place unless otherwise noted. If you want a long-term collector-grade piece, you may eventually choose to have a full recap done by your favorite tech. As it sits, it is performing very well and sounds excellent.

⭐ Features

  • Classic Harman Kardon 730 “Twin Power” stereo receiver
  • Approx. 40W per channel into 8Ω (conservatively rated, with lots of real-world drive)
  • Twin power / dual-mono power amp design for better channel separation and control
  • Multiple inputs: AUX, Tape, Phono (typically two phono inputs on this model), FM/AM tuner
  • Pre-out / main-in capability (on many 730 units) for system flexibility
  • Speaker A/B outputs for multiple room setups
  • Headphone jack for late-night listening

🎧 Sound

The 730 is famous for sounding bigger and richer than its specs:

  • Warm, smooth midrange that flatters vocals, jazz, and classic rock
  • Full, controlled bass with good grip and weight
  • Smooth, non-fatiguing highs—detailed without being harsh
  • Excellent channel separation and soundstage thanks to the twin power architecture

All listening tests were performed after service and cleaning with real speakers at normal home listening levels.

📖 Please Read

This is a vintage electronic component that is several decades old. While it has been serviced and tested and is performing very well, there is always some inherent risk with vintage gear and no one can guarantee how long original components will last.

Please review all photos and the YouTube demo video carefully, as they are part of the description, and ask any questions before buying.

All sales are as-described on Reverb. If you have specific concerns, need additional photos, or want extra tests, please reach out before purchasing and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
