The Elektron Tonverk is a 16-track polyphonic multisampler and audio processor that redefines the Elektron workflow for sound designers and performers. Acting as a comprehensive studio centerpiece, it combines deep stereo multisampling, polyphonic sequencing, and an advanced routing architecture that includes flexible busing and dedicated effect tracks. This new "black box" powerhouse is built to handle everything from intricate sound design to controlling entire hardware setups with its versatile machine-based architecture.
Key elements of its design:
- Polyphonic Multisampling Features 8 stereo audio tracks that can host Single Player, Multi Player, or MIDI machines, allowing for rich polyphonic textures, velocity layers, and automatic multisampling of external gear.
- Advanced Routing Architecture Beyond the 8 audio tracks, Tonverk introduces 4 dedicated Bus tracks for grouping and processing, 3 Send FX tracks, and a global Mix track, enabling a modular-style mixing workflow within a standalone groovebox.
- Machine-Based Workflow Each audio track can be assigned different "Machines" (sound engines) such as audio players or MIDI controllers, providing flexibility to treat the unit as a sampler, a synth sequencer, or an effects processor depending on your needs.
- Deep Modulation & FX Every track features two assignable LFOs, a modulation envelope, and unique effects like the "Frequency Warper," "Degrader," and "Chrono Pitch" granular shifter, plus dedicated FX LFOs for evolving textures.
- Next-Gen Sequencing The sequencer supports up to 256 steps per pattern with individual track lengths, micro-timing, probability (Trig Conditions), and new features like humanized strumming and comprehensive scale modes.
User feedback highlights the Tonverk as a "modulation monster" that fills the gap between the Digitakt and Octatrack. Users praise the new busing system for opening up dub-style mixing possibilities and note that the ability to multisample automatically makes it an incredible companion for capturing vintage synths.
