Get comfortable guys- this is gonna' be another one of my long ones.....
Up for grabs is this TREMENDOUS sounding 12" AlNiCo+ brass sleeve + hemp fiber cone speaker MULTIPLE IMPEDANCES guitar speaker......
This unit was completely re-fabricated & built at PMR in Ohio with all new OEM/ AMERICAN made components.
There are no after market, replacement, or import Chyna crap in it , but ONLY AMERICAN made parts....
.......'Fellas', even if you don't buy from me- BUY AMERICAN!
This 1960s gem was stripped down to bare metal and magnet, and then EVERYTHING was replaced. From the inside out, it's basically a new speaker again- ONLY BETTER!
The magnetic gap was verified with a gauss/flux probe and measured just fine, so it was PURPOSELY NOT de-magnetized/ re-magnetized...Some people say these old OEM magnetic assemblies "sweeten with age", and after I heard it, I HAVE to agree!!!
The frame was stripped down, and then shot with that "Granite" textured, multiple colored gray poly finish, so it looks and feels like stone- and the beautiful thing I found out by accident-
******This stuff REALLY DAMPENS the frame RINGING to almost nothing!******
Take a pencil, a fork, screw driver, or anything you can find, and tap onto your speaker frame...yep- that's what I thought...
............................. Frame "ringing". is (IZ!) a BIG factor that people usually overlook unless they are doing high end hi-fi.. .. .. .. BUT- Mother Nature and physics don't care about the application- ringing is ringing, and that energy gets re-radiated into the air VIA your cone, or even the baffle board!.. So, by applying this coating to the stamped steel frame, it's dampened, and the sound you hear is pure and accurate, without the secondary "Ghost Notes" being reflected into your sound!
So, after being stripped down to bare metal and magnet, and then coating it with that textured finish the build process began, and there's a few really cool things to bring up with this one....
I'll itemize the components.....
*Frame- stamped steel dampened 4 spoke frame
*Magnetic composition- AlNiCo VII
*Front gaskets- I found a set of old OEM natural/tan gaskets with the 4/8 hole mounting pattern, so I used these for cosmetic appearances...
*Litz wires-- these are COPPER lit wires... After measuring the industry standard silver/gray "pot-metal" woven conductors, I now use COPPER on ALL of my rebuilds, new units , and customer's repairs. That gray stuff does nothing but smudge and smear the signal BEFORE it even gets to your voice coil.. By using copper- you get TRUE signal transference to the coils, and your tonality will show it.
And- just for fun- while I was at it,. I also placed heat shrink/ high flexibility insulators over the lit wires, and bonded them on each end to prevent any movement or possibility of vibrations..
* Spider assembly- I can't say there's anything too far out of the ordinary here.I used a high compliance treated textile.....And- she has a cupped profile should you need that much excursion..
*Voice coil(s).. here's where this gets interesting...
I found a number of voice coils, that are NOT bass/subwoofer voice coils, but rather are a dual winding/ fine winding wire, full range light weight design that are PERFECT for this application...
Basically, what you have is a DUAL 8 Ohm winding set up......EACH coil is easily 20 watts with a high temp KAPTON former, with Kraft paper wrapping..
I added two sets/ pairs of quad terminal hook ups, so you have extra tabs to wire this speaker how ever you want to, or even to mix in with other loudspeakers, you'll have room for the hook ups..
Sooooooo, what you can do with this unit is you can run both coils in parallel ( and gain +3dB sensitivity), and get a final impedance off 4 Ohms...
You can run EITHER coil, and have an 8 Ohm load..
AAAAND- you can wire both coils in SERIES, for a total of 16 Ohms, and that doubles the number of windings in the magnetic coil gap, and get a +3dB gain!. Talk about versatility, this one does it all! And- as mentioned, I used color coded heat shrink insulation on all lit wires so they can't short out..
*Dust Cap- This is a 2.5" open weave/acoustically transparent screen/ textile dust cap, and lets just the right amount of mids/ high end directly out of the coil/core area...it's black, although lighting makes it appear slightly blue.. its BLACK.
*Surround- This is also a hemp fiber material, as it's part of the molded hemp fiber cone assembly...It was treated with special Eastman Kodak chemicals to loosen the fibers in THAT AREA ONLY, and aids in low frequency response. This was lightly treated with ReZon-Ex in order to prevent any cone edge resonance issues, and omit any secondary or "Ghost-Notes" from being reflected back into the cone, and into the air....
*That brings us to the star of the show...The HEMPOPOTAMUS hemp fiber cones....
The cone itself was molded at 11 grams.. This really lowers Moving mass, and aids in speed, detail and resolution. .........This makes it possible to make LIGHTER and STRONGER cones, because the hemp fibers are longer, and "Thatch" together much better than the industry standard pine pulp...STRONGER and LIGHTER are the way you want to go for the PERFECT cone... It should be infinitely light and infinitely stiff... Which- is physically IMpossible- but this is a HUGE step in that direction compared to anything else out there... The cone profile is straight/conical, and a ribbed body to help dispersion angles at higher frequencies...
This unit really is greater than the sum of its parts.... I can't really add anything constructive to the descriptions I've already typed..
***. Fully tested under diagnostics and operates without any rubbing, smoking, buzzing, holes, rips, or tears- it's basically a brand new speaker- ONLY BETTER!
Plus, I'm confident enough that you guys will LOVE this one, that I am including my 15 day " NO GAMBLE" return option from delivery date (((less customer damage))) if for ANY reason you simply don't like it, or you dis-agree with ANYTHING I just typed...
So, if you want an AlNiCo 12" high performance hemp fiber speaker that's a VERY limited production under 200, then here ya' go!
ANY questions or concerns, just ask.
THANKS GUYS!!!
