Up for sale, a 1984 Ibanez Musician MC-940DS Fretless bass. Built from 1979-1987, the Ibanez Musician basses were known for their use by artists ranging from Sting and Adam Clayton to John McVie. The MC-924DS features a full 34" scale and neck through body design, with a neck made from three pieces of maple reinforced with strips of walnut. The dark stained ash on the top and back has very prominent grain, sandwiching a core of mahogany for a very complex and rich tone.

Weighing in at 10lbs, 4oz, this bass has a healthy natural sustain with thick low end that growls and punches with great articulation. The slab ebony fretboard accentuates the note attack and round, present quality of the tone. The C shaped neck profile has quite a bit of chunk and roundness with generous shoulders and a substantial feel. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width and is a combination of bone and brass, marrying the tonal properties of the two for a bit of snap in the top end and great clarity. The headstock features a dark stained ash veneer to match the body, along with the original gold "Musician" truss rod cover.

The original active circuit stopped working and has been replaced with a Trickfish Flexcore system preamp. The controls are volume, pan, and tone in passive mode and volume, pan, treble, mid, bass in active mode. The original pickups are still installed and it sounds great! Additionally, the tuners have been replaced with hipshots.

As expected for an instrument of this age, there are scratches, marks, and dings on the body and sides of the neck which do not impact the playability of the bass.
