To the casual observer, the SiX mixer may resemble any compact desktop mixer. However, it stands out with its thoughtfully designed features driven by a commitment to flexibility for various creative needs.
Though small, SiX embodies classic SSL design and carries the essence of 40 years of studio expertise. Listening to SiX reveals its impeccable sound quality, making it powerful, intuitive, and rewarding.
SiX is a professional-grade console suitable for studios, post-production, live performances, and podcasting. It delivers rich sound and utility features in a compact format, perfect for transport.
Offering exceptional value, SiX includes two recording channels with SuperAnalogue mic preamps, a two-band EQ, a simplified SSL Channel Compressor, and 100mm faders. It also features a G-Series Bus Compressor on the main mix bus and a Listen Mic Compressor for talkback, functioning as a capable twelve-channel summing system.
**The SuperAnalogue Sound of SSL**
SiX's SSL SuperAnalogue design delivers the sonic quality of a large-format console in a portable format. Its fully balanced signal path ensures pristine audio with a wide dynamic range and low noise. For in-depth technical details, consult the "Lifting The Veil" document.
**Two Recording Channels**
SiX's two mono channels feature transparent SSL SuperAnalogue mic pres offering a gain range of up to 66dB. Each channel has phantom power, a 75Hz high-pass filter, and an independent line-level input that can switch to instrument-level.
A new one-knob compressor circuit simplifies achieving consistent levels, while the two-band SSL EQ provides musically pleasing response curves. Each channel also includes a fully balanced insert point for external signal processors.
**Line Level Options**
SiX has two stereo input channels with -10/+20 dB trim for line sources, featuring balance controls and 100mm faders. If one side of a stereo input is active, it automatically switches to mono.
With its two mono and two stereo input channels, SiX can sum up to 12 channels into the main mix bus, including two stereo external inputs.
**Master Bus Compressor**
The G Series Bus Compressor on the main mix bus provides classic SSL compression and control, ensuring your mixes have that characteristic SSL sound.
Routing Pro
SiX has a collection of professional routing & monitoring features taken directly from our large format console heritage. It has two Stereo Cue buses (with level and pan controls) for individual artist foldback mixes. The Master Section has main and alternate monitor outputs with a proper monitor source matrix, as well as mono check, dim and cut. The fader channels all have proper PFL and a Mute button that routes the muted signal to a ‘Bus B’. Bus B can be used as a convenient DAW record send but it can also be routed to the monitor matrix. This means that the muted signal can be monitored without it feeding the main mix bus and then switched in to the main mix with the Mute button – perfect for live webcasting because a remote feed can be monitored ‘offline’ and punched in to the broadcast feed. There is a talkback mic’ input with phantom power and SSL’s unique, crunchy Listen Mic Compressor, which of course also serves as a unique processing tool that delivers that classic 1980’s slammed drums sound.
