Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides
This instrument sings like no other guitar I've ever heard.... period. It just rings, sings and is so completely balanced, hard to believe until you get it in your hands. It features stunning 114 year old Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce in absolutely excellent condition (there has never been any cracks on the top or back). There is nothing like aged Adi Spruce, this is the real thing! There were only 182 produced in 1901 and I have never seen another one on the market. This is a rare piece of history.
Repairs: I brought this to Matt Umanov (NYC) and he personally looked at this guitar. He said that the repairs were likely done by Martin in the 50s or 60. There are 3 repaired cracks in the sides near the bottom that have recently been cleated they are stable. The heel of the neck has a hairline fracture (in the picture) that is stable. The brazilian rosewood back was likely replaced by martin (evidenced by the centerline design) and is in perfect condition. The tuners have been replaced but the original tuners (in the picture) are included, handmade and in good condition. The top is totally FLAT, (no bowing at all), the back is also compelely flat and has NO sign of cracks. The guitar has had a light overspray with the original french polish underneath. If you want to play right out of the case and can play everyday this guitar is for you.
Serial number is 9138, easily seen inside the guitar. The tone of this guitar is UNBELIEVABLE, it just outright sings, very well balanced with bright highs and mellow lows. It is strung with .11 steel strings (It was recently at Martin for 2 months while they observed that the top is stable and fit for light gauge steel and is fully ready to be an everyday guitar.) This guitar is the lightest guitar you will hold. It is an absolute joy to play. The action is great with plenty of saddle left, ( neck was professionally reset at some point). It comes with a SKB hard case that fits like a glove.
