Gibson / 1951 J-50

Introduced in 1942 as a natural-colored version of the J-45.

Later, it became a highly popular model, thanks to its use by artists such as Bob Dylan and Davy Graham.

This guitar was produced in 1951, nine years after its introduction.

Natural Color Finish

The J-45, a representative round-shoulder guitar, was originally only available in sunburst, with cherry sunburst introduced in 1961, effectively limiting its color palette to one color. The J-50, featuring a round-shoulder guitar in natural, was produced in this style.

The top is made of spruce.

The back and sides are made of mahogany and feature a brown finish to match the color of the top.

The small pickguard has the same specs as the J-45.

The rosewood fingerboard features dot position markers.

The neck is made of mahogany, and its moderate thickness creates a comfortable fit in the hand.

The rosewood bridge on the upper belly features long saddles, suggesting the basic specifications are similar to those of the J-45.

The headstock features a gold Gibson modern logo decal, and the bell-shaped truss rod cover is a single piece.

The tuning machines are Kluson triple-set, unengraved, but the tuning pegs themselves have been replaced.

While the J-45 is famous for its round shoulder design, the J-50, with its fine-grained spruce and natural color, offers a different kind of charm and sophistication.
