This listing is for the “JML Neve mod” which provides users a highly advantageous dual toggle switch impedance faceplate modification for the Neve racks (or any rack you have for 1073cv/1081/1084’s) that allows you to toggle between condenser mic impedance and ribbon impedances which yields a much fuller response. More specifically, vintage Neve 1073’s used to operate at 300ohm loads for older microphones however, modern mics like FET powered LDC’s want to see a much higher impedance of 1200ohm, which is where most 1073’s live at these days.

The problem with this modern, higher fixed impedances is that you are missing out on the warmth and full range output the 1073’s want to provide with ribbons and dynamic mics, but are unable to at modern impedance. Once these channel strips are racked up, it is impossible to switch the impedance without removing the rack, removing the channel strip from the rack and tearing the whole unit apart from its housing.

This modification puts a pair of toggle switches up front on the faceplate as shown so you can get the most out of your 1073’s or 1084’s by changing the tapped primary windings (wiring) of the transformer). Honestly, all Neve racks should have this since we are constantly using different types of mics that require an array of different load requirements but there is currently no other way to achieve this basic requirement. This service fee also includes an expedited fast 1-2 week turnaround for no extra fee. Expedited fees usually range an extra 250-500. This service also includes all parts, labor and shipping.

So switched up is for modern condenser mics (1200ohms) and switched down is for ribbons and old dynamics (300ohms).
