Modelled after session legend Tom Shanks’ original 1960 Burst, the Collector’s Choice #7 is one of Gibson’s most faithfully recreated Les Paul reissues, built by the Custom Shop in limited numbers around 2012. It features a lightly aged faded cherry finish over a beautifully figured maple top, a slim early-1960 neck profile, and period-correct hardware throughout. This example has been tastefully modified with a mix of vintage-style Patent Number T-Top and Monty’s PAF pickups, offering a blend of articulate clarity and classic low-mid growl. Produced as part of the Collector’s Choice series capturing specific vintage guitars down to minute details of wear and tone, the John Shanks 1960s replica is a standout among Gibson’s most collectible modern reissues.
Specs: * Solid mahogany body with carved maple top * One-piece mahogany neck * Dark Rosewood fretboard * Early 1960 slim neck profile * Monty’s PAF (Bridge) and Patent Number T-Top with Gold Cover (neck) pickups * Aged nickel hardware * Late 1960s ABR-1 bridge (Gold - most likely from a LP Custom or ES-345/355) & replacement lightweight aluminium stopbar tailpiece * Grover Rotomatic tuners * Faded cherry nitrocellulose finish over a very subtle flame
Weight 4.0 kg on the dot.
Loaded with a Monty PAF in the bridge position, 1960s Patent Sticker T-Top (Gold). Includes all paperwork and original Gibson Custom Lifton-style brown case with pink lining.
All plastics have been replaced with aged relic parts from Crazyparts. Pots have been replaced with VIP 500k pots and old Sprague caps, courtesy of Rand Jackson.
Limited to 300 guitars only, this Collectors Choice is #097 in the production run.
