The Martin D 12-fret was originally introduced in 1931. Properly named the dreadnought after the largest ship in the British Navy (or anywhere for that matter) at the time, These 12-fret slot head bodies were the largest guitars produced at that time. This D-28 12-Fret Custom built by the Martin Custom Shop features hand picked tonewoods chosen by us at the Martin factory in Nazareth, PA. A clean and tight grained certified High Altitude Swiss Spruce top is paired with premium Wild Grain East Indian Rosewood back and sides with gorgeous multi-figuring and coloring throughout plus Golden Era scalloped bracing with other 28-style pre-war specs.
Features include Genuine Mahogany 1-piece modified V neck with slotted headstock and volute, Abalone Pearl Foden style fretboard inlays, black/ white 28-style top purfling and rosette, aging toner top, Ebony fretboard and traditional long saddle bridge, antique white body bindings, Grover Nickel open-geared tuners, premium Wild Grain East Indian Rosewood blank headstock overlay, 28-style checker backstrip, white pins with tortoise dots, 1 3/4″ nut width, 2 5/32″ saddle spacing, 25.4″ scale length and more.
