ES-335 PRO, manufactured for only three years from 1979 to 1981, now in stock!

This model is a new ES-335 introduced to the market in 1979. The ES-335TD manufactured concurrently at this time featured small block inlays and a trapeze tailpiece. This instrument, with its dot inlays and stop tailpiece, at first glance resembles an early ES-335, but something is different. Remarkably, dot inlays are also placed at the 1st fret position. Additionally, some units of this same model exist with the standard look, lacking the dot at the 1st fret. It appears specifications changed over time.

The pickups are open-type double black bobbins. This isn't a cover removal; it's the original specification. Gibson's original Dirtyfingers. At the time, these were Gibson's most powerful pickups. While the idea of putting high-power pickups in a semi-hollow body isn't common today, back then, raw power was what everyone demanded. Regarding the crucial sound, this model features significantly emphasized low end. That said, it never becomes overly boomy. Its uniquely sweet and thick sound sets it apart from the current ES-335.

However, production of this ES-335 PRO ceased in 1981. It has not been reissued since. The late 70s to early 80s saw rapidly shifting musical trends and constant evolution in gear like amplifiers. Consequently, few models, not just this one, achieved lasting popularity. This wasn't unique to Gibson; rival Fender faced the same trend. Thus, it was an interesting era with many rare models emerging.

A super rare model born in the gap between eras. It's in great condition and highly recommended!

Condition

Overall clean condition.

The frets and nut have been replaced, but show minimal wear since replacement, offering optimal playability.

Pot dates: 13778xx, 13779xx. The xx is soldered and unreadable, but corresponds to the body's approximate age. No signs of prior replacement.

Truss rod has ample adjustment range.
