For sale is a vintage 1985 Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal, the original Made in Japan version that started it all. This is the legendary “chainsaw” distortion that defined the Swedish death metal sound used by bands like Entombed, Dismember, and countless others.
Unlike later Taiwanese versions, this early Japanese unit has a slightly tighter low end and smoother mids. From gnarly grindcore buzzsaw tones to heavy, saturated distortion, the HM-2 is pure 1980s aggression in a compact black box.
Good for its age. Shows normal cosmetic wear and small paint chips (see photos), but functions flawlessly. All knobs and jacks are solid, no scratchy pots or signal issues. Missing back label but “Made in Japan” label and serial number visible in the battery compartment.
Runs on 12V or Boss-style power supply (or 9V Battery)
