Fender Coronado Wildwood BASS II was manufactured from 1967 through 1972, which means there are a limited number available. It was released in 1967, with the Wildwood versions appearing shortly after, featuring unique, multi-colored beechwood bodies created by injecting dye into living trees. Designed by Roger Rossmeisl, who previously worked for Rickenbacker, the model featured two DeArmond pickups.
The "Wildwood" versions were a special, more expensive line. The bodies were made from beechwood, and dye was injected into the wood before it was harvested to create the unique, multi-colored, stained look.
In 1967, the Coronado Bass II was introduced with two pickups, replacing the single-pickup Coronado Bass I which had launched the previous year.
This bass has a semi-hollow, double-bound body and a bolt-on maple neck, a Fender trademark. It also features DeArmond single-coil pickups, a 30" short scale, and a tremolo system.
The Bass II is a true hollow-body design with a laminated beechwood body and a maple neck. The neck is traditional Fender bolt-on design. It also features DeArmond-designed single-coil pickups, which were unusual for Fender at the time, and electronics built by Rowe Industries. This bass came with a 30-inch short-scale neck, a rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, and an "F" branded tailpiece. The Coronado series was discontinued in 1972.
