Body
The body is crafted from a single piece of ash, offering a naturally full and resonant tone unique to one-piece construction.As the instrument is played and ages, you’ll feel the solid slab begin to “open up,” resonating with even greater depth and character.

Neck
Both the neck and fingerboard are made of maple, featuring what’s known as a “slab maple fingerboard” structure.This provides clear articulation, quick response, and the lively snap characteristic of maple, while adding just the right amount of compression for balance.

The standout feature is the neck grip—hand-carved by skilled Japanese craftsmen, taking nearly four times longer than a standard neck build.It feels instantly familiar in the hand, offering stability and effortless comfort even through long sessions—an ergonomic shape born from the feedback of professional players.

While Crews basses typically feature a satin-finished neck, the JB-2004 opts for a gloss finish, giving it a slightly firmer, more percussive attack with increased definition and focus.

It delivers a strong, responsive resonance that projects from within, offering clear separation and rich tone across all four strings.

Electronics
Equipped with the Type-J 2024 pickups, this bass delivers a clear, flat, and articulate tone with strong presence in a band mix.Slap produces a percussive attack, fingerstyle yields warm, rounded mids, and pick playing delivers a tight low end.It responds faithfully to the player’s touch and remains balanced with moderate yet even output across the range.

The onboard Crews TBC-1 preamp features center-click TREBLE and BASS controls, allowing smooth boost and cut around the flat center position.The VOLUME knob includes a push/pull switch for preamp bypass, enabling quick switching between active and passive modes.When controls are set flat, the tonal difference between active and passive is minimal—highlighting the TBC-1’s extremely clean, flat, and transparent character.

You can, for instance, preset a boosted EQ and engage the preamp at the right moment for a natural lift with no tonal gap.

This gives you wide tonal versatility and dynamic control directly from your instrument.
