Vintage 1990's MNIFEX OM928 / Electro-Voice 660 / PL6 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone Low Z w accessories
Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a rare studio quality, vintage 1990's era Electro Voice model 660 dynamic super cardioid microphones that comes with the original E.V model mic clip and an original E.V box in which to store the contents. These rugged classic microphones were made by E.V in the U.S.A for almost 30 years before being discontinued and was used for several applications including broadcasting and singing.
This is actually a rare variant of the 660 which was sold under license to MNIFEX which then sold this 660 under their brand name. This was often done with E.V and Shure Brothers. The 660 was also sold under license through University Sound at the time in the same ebony paint scheme.
MNIFEX called this mic the OM928 but again, it's simply a rebadged 660 and if you know anything about the E.V 660 mic it's one of the best that E.V ever sold.
Pic # 2 is from an old E.V advertisement that shows technical characteristics on this model mic.
The 660 came in both stick form as well as with the lower pistol grip type depending on your needs but this stick mic could either place in a mic clip or be simply held in the hand while live.
This MNIFEX is very seldomly seen. I rarely get these in. This is only the 2nd example I have ever come across so it's a bit exotic.
The OM928 is a light weight microphone set at 150 OHMS (Low impedance) and it has a smooth, warm tone that's excellent for broadcasting and singing. It's not super bass heavy like a Shure SM-58. More mid-range with an excellent frequency response. These mics are dual Z as well so if you wire it properly you can get high Z but currently it's factory set at low impedance. The wires to make the change are inside the mics handle and it takes but 5 seconds to change the impedance.
The 660 / OM928 is a uni-directional (super cardioid) picking up only your voice directly in front of the screen and cancelling out unwanted background noise.
You'll also notice that this mic has the stock painted finish. The paint basically eliminated any glare that would be caused from bright lights. The front screens on this mic are in very nice condition with no dents, odors or tarnish. There are zero dents or fractures on the mic but there are some very lite scuff marks & scratches. The E.V label looks great and completely legible.
I'd rate this mic an easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
It should be noted that this mic has a new inner foam liner. These inner foam pop filters greatly help with the acoustics of the mic. The foam is in great shape and will last for several decades to come. The new foam / pop filter cuts down any unwanted feedback due to wind or breathing. If you buy a used 660 model mic you'll want to make sure the inner foam pop filters are replaced professionally. I cleaned the XLR pins on these mics as well ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached.
The mic measures 6 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 wide at the screen.
The mics take a standard XLR cable which is not included. The Electro Voice 358 model mic clip is included and it fits the mics firmly allowing for a wide range of tilt up and down. The clip will screw on to any microphone desk or floor stand. The clip has the adjustable tension via side screw. The clip is in very nice physical condition with just a few scuff marks and these usually sell for around $40.00 alone. You'll see that the E.V case is in very nice overall condition and a great place to store everything when not in use. The case is an all metal design with a stock painted mustard yellow hammered finish with very lite exterior wear but it's free of any dents or corrosion. It has a great locking mechanism to keep the top lid securely closed. I added two new foam inserts as well to keep the mic safe and snug. This is a great accessory that adds real value to the purchase as the case alone in this condition sells for $70.00 plus. If you demand rare and nice looking and 660 out with a twist...this one won't disappoint.
MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
