The AI011 analog voltage-controlled oscillator is a multi-waveform V/Oct-compatible Eurorack module based on the legendary CEM3340 IC created by veteran designer Doug Curtis. In addition to providing linear FM and pulse width modulation functions, it utilizes a temperature compensation circuit to maintain tuning stability.
AI Synthesis provides two sync schemes, soft sync (which varies the core’s reset point) and bipolar hard sync (which forces the core to change direction). The module also includes a 10-pin connector on the reverse of the module, which contains buffered triangle wave and ramp wave outputs and a hard sync input. This additional connection point allows new possibilities for designing/connecting expansion modules.
The internal sine wave converter is a JFET type, which we’ve found to be highly accurate with under 1.5% distortion. This module is a great utility VCO with great buffering, output impedances, connection points, and more. It’s very similar to the Kassutronics 3340 VCO which shares most of the same features. At only 8HP, it doesn’t hog a lot of space, either!
Specs:
- Size: Eurorack/8HP
- Depth: 49mm (w/o cable)
- Waveforms: Sine, Triangle, Ramp, Pulse
- Output Amplitude: Approx. ±5V (10Vpp)
- Current Draw: 15mA@-12V, 15mA@+12V
Exact components may vary from module to module, as each unit is tuned individually. Each module has been rigorously tested and as such, fingerprints and slight blemishes may be present (though we do our best to avoid these!). Depth and current draw measurements are approximations intended to help with planning your Eurorack setup; please allow for additional space/current to allow for a margin of error.
