The Harlot V4 is a hand-wired tube overdrive pedal and it covers mild, smooth tones through mid gain crunch to fairly aggressive rock tones.

It has mild to heavy overdrive with aggressive tones but in the most musical way.

It covers mild, smooth tones through mid gain crunch to fairly aggressive rock tones.

A second footswitch takes the Harlot V4 into a higher gain mode which is great for increasing saturation and aggression for solo tones.

The Harlot V4 sounds natural, fat, dynamic and is very touch sensitive.

The 9 VDC power supply (provided) is converted to 6 VDC for the tube heaters and 240 VDC for the tube plates for authentic tube performance.

The V4 Harlot features a "Lows" pot in place of the 3-way "Lows" mini switch found on V3.

This "Lows" pot works as a bass control and is situated pre-drive in the circuit.

It allows the low end to be dialed in more precisely than with the 3-way mini switch found on the V3 Harlot.

Also, when the Harlot V4 is placed first in line after the guitar, this "Lows" pot also works as an input impedance control.

Lowering the input impedance of the circuit lowers the height of the guitar's resonant peak effectively it rolls off a little high end when rotated counter-clockwise.

This smoothing out of the high end response and simultaneous reduction of low end results in a more mid-rich overdrive tone.

This Input Impedance control is also found on our Peasant and Artisan pedals and when set very low, can result in a similar almost cocked-wah effect as that provided by the classic and well loved Treble Booster circuit.

Note that this effect only occurs if the pedal is situated right after the guitar (a guitar with passive pickups).

If the Harlot V4 is placed after other effects that are turned on, or after a buffer or buffered bypass pedal, then the "Lows" pot simply acts as a bass control and has no effect on the resonant peak of the guitar's electronics and there is no associated reduction in high end.

The new "Mode" 3 works best at Gain pot settings between around noon and 3 o'clock, adding some of that aggressive upper mid response that is associated with classic late '60s Marshall plexi amps.

While the Harlot V4 was not designed specifically as a plexi-type pedal or simulation thereof, it does have what might be considered a "British" type sound and having the ability to dial in more upper mids adds to this characteristic if/when required.
