Vintage Tone, 7.3k Ohms, Alnico 3 Bar
Here it is, my very first hand wound humbucker available for sale. I am confident whoever decides to make this humbucker a part of their collection will love it. Alnico 3 is a magnet type not often used in any design nowadays because of the unique tone it produces. No matter what you do, Alnico 3 creates a dark, brooding tone, not muddy, brooding. There's nothing I can do about it. Think of old school surfer pr country/western music from the 50's and 60's, jangly, with a bit of sparkle, but dark in tone when listened to closely. To combat this, my design for the "Ghost" called for two (2) rows of screws for more top end and less bass from the inherent low-end presence in the Alnico 3 bar magnet. This pickup earned the designation "Ghost" because I thought the low wind-count with the fairly low powered Alnico 3 magnet would make for a super smooth, transparent rhythm neck... What I ended up with was a super smooth, yet DARK and bassy rhythm tone, with hollow and haunting mids that is utterly unique. I've never heard anything like it.
Better for a rhythm tone, but would be a brutal solo tone in the bridge with enough overdrive. Silent when hand muted, cuts when let loose, the "Ghost" will not disappoint. You can adjust the height of each rows of screws and because of the mismatched wind on each half of the pickup, turning the pickup around will give a slight difference in presence. No matter how you put it, neck or bridge (or middle), backwards or forwards, the "Ghost" is super clear and big-sounding, loves distortion, yet will clean up to squeaky clean levels. This is, by far, my most customizable and versatile pickup, so do not miss out on this ear candy! It took 3 iterations of this pickup in testing, each better than the last, before the "Ghost" was born, seriously don't miss out on this one, it's great. This pickup is not wax-potted and I can't hear any buzz or microphonics even with an extreme amount of gain and distortion. Each of my DSG pickups are hand wound by me here in Lafayette, Louisiana with all American parts. Free shipping to the continental United States!!
